Our story

We built the app we wished existed

Namaste Buddy was born out of a very personal frustration. As Indian-Australian parents, we watched our kids slowly lose their Hindi — not because they didn't want to speak it, but because nothing made it feel worth speaking.

Duolingo felt like a quiz app. Tutors were expensive and hard to schedule. Saturday Hindi school was met with groans. And yet, the same kids who “hated Hindi” could spend hours playing games, watching Bollywood, and chatting online.

The insight was simple: kids don't hate Hindi — they hate drills. Give them a Bollywood audition to rehearse or a cricket match to commentate on, and suddenly they're asking for “five more minutes” of Hindi practice.

So we built Namaste Buddy — an AI that speaks the way Indian families in Australia actually talk. Warm, code-mixed, culturally rich. Not the formal Hindi of a textbook, but the Hindi of a loving dadi or a enthusiastic cricket uncle.

We also built Buddy around healthy weekly practice — not endless screen time. Short, regular sessions are how language actually sticks, and it's how we'd want our own kids using the app.

Our mission

To make sure every Indian-Australian child can speak to their grandparents, understand their culture, and carry their heritage with pride — without it feeling like homework.
