Privacy Policy
Effective date: 18 April 2026
The short version:
- We collect only what we need to run the app.
- We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
- Children's data is handled with extra care — parental consent is required.
- You can request deletion of all your data at any time.
1. Who We Are
Proscale Technologies Pvt Ltd (trading as Namaste Buddy, “we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Namaste Buddy platform — an AI-powered Hindi learning app for children. Namaste Buddy is a global service offered to Indian families worldwide, and we are committed to handling personal data in accordance with the major children's and general privacy frameworks that apply to our users, including:
- GDPR (EU) and the UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018 (United Kingdom)
- COPPA — Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (United States)
- PIPEDA — Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada)
- PDPA — Personal Data Protection Act (Singapore)
- Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles
- India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023
- The UK Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code)
Where these regimes differ, we apply the standard that gives users the greatest protection.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal information:
Account Information (parent/guardian)
- Name and email address (via Google Sign-In or email registration)
- Profile photo URL (if provided by Google)
- Subscription tier and billing status (no payment card data — handled by Paddle)
Learning Data (child)
- Chat transcripts from roleplay and journal sessions
- Vocabulary words learned
- Scenarios practised and session timestamps
- Streak, stars, and achievement data
Technical Data
- Device type, browser, and operating system (for compatibility)
- Crash and error logs (anonymised)
- Firebase Analytics events (page views, feature usage — no personally identifiable data)
We do not collect audio recordings. Text-to-speech is generated on your device or via a secure proxy; we do not store voice data.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, personalise, and improve the learning experience;
- Track learning progress, streaks, and achievements;
- Generate weekly parent reports;
- Process subscription payments and send receipts;
- Send transactional emails (e.g., trial expiry reminders, billing);
- Monitor for abuse and ensure platform safety; and
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data to train AI models, serve targeted advertising, or sell to third parties.
4. Children's Privacy
Protecting children's privacy is our top priority. All accounts for children under 13 must be set up by a parent or legal guardian. By creating an account, the parent/guardian:
- Confirms they have the authority to consent on the child's behalf;
- Understands that the child's learning data will be stored in Firestore (Google Cloud); and
- Can request review, correction, or deletion of the child's data at any time.
We will never knowingly collect data from a child without verified parental consent. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child without consent, contact us immediately at privacy@namastebuddy.com and we will delete it promptly.
5. Third-Party Services
We work with trusted third-party providers to run the Service. Each is bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements:
Google Firebase
Authentication, database (Firestore), and analytics
Anthropic (Claude AI)
Generating conversational Hindi learning responses
Paddle
Secure payment processing — we never receive or store your card details
Google Cloud Text-to-Speech
Generating Hindi audio for the Word of the Day
Chat transcripts sent to Anthropic are processed in real-time and are not retained by Anthropic for training purposes under our API agreement.
6. Data Storage and Security
All user data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) on globally distributed Google Cloud infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard TLS 1.2+. Because we serve users worldwide, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence — including the United States, the European Union, and India. Where required (e.g., for EU/UK users), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent transfer mechanisms.
Access to production data is restricted to authorised Namaste Buddy personnel only. We conduct regular security reviews and follow Google's security best practices.
While we take all reasonable steps to protect your data, no internet transmission is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users and the relevant supervisory authorities in accordance with applicable data breach notification laws (e.g., GDPR Article 33, the Australian Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, U.S. state breach-notification statutes, and equivalent regimes in other jurisdictions).
7. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove all personally identifiable information within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal or financial compliance purposes (e.g., tax records for 7 years).
Anonymous, aggregated learning data (e.g., “X% of users learned this word”) may be retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your country of residence, you have rights under one or more of the privacy regimes listed in Section 1. These commonly include the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Delete your account and associated data (right to erasure / “right to be forgotten” under GDPR);
- Port your data to another service in a structured, machine-readable format;
- Object to certain processing activities or withdraw consent;
- Opt out of non-essential communications; and
- Complainto your local data protection authority — for example, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK, your national supervisory authority in the EU, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC), the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) in Singapore, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), or the Data Protection Board of India.

9. Cookies and Tracking
We use session cookies for authentication (managed by Firebase Auth). We do not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or cross-site trackers.
Firebase Analytics uses anonymised, aggregated data without personal identifiers. You can opt out of analytics data collection by contacting us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you by email of any material changes at least 14 days before they take effect. The “Effective date” at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
