How it works

It's a conversation, not a textbook

Two minutes per scene. Reply by typing or speaking. Stuck on a word — type it in your language and Buddy surfaces the Hindi for you.

☕

At the Chai-Wala

Scene · Rishikesh, 7:00 am

✨

💡 Tip — in Hindi you could say: यहाँ क्या ख़ास है? (Yahan kya khaas hai?)

☕

आइए! गरम चाय? मसाला बनाऊँ या सिम्पल?

Aaiye! Garam chai? Masala banaaoon ya simple?

Welcome! Hot chai? Shall I make masala or plain?

A/अ

Masala, kam cheeni.

🌶️

कड़क बनाऊँ? पहली बार ऋषिकेश?

Kadak banaaoon? Pehli baar Rishikesh?

Should I make it strong? First time in Rishikesh?

A/अ

Yes — what's special here?

Type in Hindi, English, Español, Français…

You never have to read Devanagari. Type in your own language, or in romanized Hindi like “masala chai” — Buddy understands both. The script sits underneath, small, for whenever you get curious.

Real moments from your trip

chai

चाय

Ordering chai at your ashram

Sweet, masala, ginger, or kadak? Buddy walks you through the order — and the right way to say thank you to didi at the kitchen window.

āsana

आसन

Asking about asanas in Hindi

Adho mukha shvanasana isn't English. Buddy bridges the Sanskrit you already know to the Hindi your teacher speaks between cues.

guru-ji

गुरुजी

Greeting your guru after class

Pranam, charan sparsh, the right honorific — the small phrases that turn a tourist into a respectful student. Used 'aap' throughout.

Arriving at the ashram

Register, get your room, hear the schedule and rules.

Evening Ganga aarti

Buy a diya, learn the chant, ask a devotee what's happening.

Yoga market shopping

Mala beads, mat, kurta — bargain in Hindi, learn the prices.

Ayurveda consultation

Describe concerns to the vaidya, learn your dosha, ask treatments.

Auto to the ghat

Negotiate the fare — meter vs fixed, traffic excuses, the bargaining dance.

Blessings from a sadhu

Approach respectfully, ask for blessings, accept prasad properly.

Sangha conversation

Chat between classes — your practice, your teachers, why you're here.

Delhi belly help

Pharmacy or clinic — symptoms, what you can eat, what to avoid.

Last day goodbye

Farewell to guruji and sangha — emotional, ceremonial, blessed for the road home.

The pranam ritual

Touching feet — when, how, what to say, and when NOT to do it.

Explaining your diet

Vegan, gluten-free, sattvic — telling the ashram cook your needs.

Learning a mantra

A pandit teaches you a new chant — meaning, pronunciation, when to use it.

Boat on the Ganga

Sunrise ride — negotiate the price, pick a route, chat with the boatman.

Temple etiquette

What to do, and what not to do, on your first Hindu-temple visit.

Full class in Hindi

Follow the whole sequence — breath counts, asana cues, transitions, savasana.

Why yogis pick this over Duolingo

Built for yogis, not kids

18 scenarios from ashram life, sattvic food, Ganga aarti, market mala-bead bargaining — not 'where is the library?'

You never have to read Devanagari

Everything appears in romanised spelling and your own language. The script is there, small, if and when you want it — never a barrier to starting.

Speaks your language

Auto-detects your browser language. Translations and tips appear in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, or Italian if that's how you think.

Works on ashram WiFi

Lightweight PWA — install to home screen, keeps working when the signal drops between Rishikesh and Tapovan.

“My students wanted to learn Hindi specifically because they were going to Rishikesh for yoga teacher training. This was the first tool I've seen that was built for them.”

Travelers ask

Do I need to learn the Devanagari script?

No. Every Hindi line shows up in romanised form too — read whichever feels comfortable. Most yoga travelers start in Roman and gradually move to Devanagari over their trip.

Will it understand yoga and Sanskrit terms?

Yes. The AI is briefed on asana names, pranayama, ayurveda vocabulary, ashram etiquette (pranam, prasad, satsang, karma yoga), and the cultural register your guru and teachers actually use.

What happens after the 14 days?

Whichever plan you picked starts — $99 for the year, or $12.99 a month (USD). A card is required to begin, and nothing is charged during the 14 days. Cancel before then from your profile and you pay nothing; you can also drop to the free tier, which keeps two roleplay scenarios and the daily journal.

Why do you ask for a card up front?

So the 14 days are genuinely full access — every scenario, voice, and correction, with nothing held back to sell you later. We send an email before the first charge, naming the date and the amount.

I'm not going to India for yoga — can I still use this?

Of course. The yoga path is one of seven learner profiles (heritage kids, partners of Indians, professionals, general travelers, enthusiasts). You can switch any time from settings.

Will it work at my ashram in India?

Yes — works on patchy 3G, no VPN required, and installable to your phone's home screen for one-tap access during darshan breaks.
